This story from the Columbia Daily Tribune is a good read. I know you are out there. I know there are people out there that believe the end of the world is upon us. Some of them may even read this blog. Believers beware! You may be disappointed.
I am fascinated by some end of days ideas and some actually seem possible, but few or none seem likely at this time. For those of you who believe this economic downturn will be the end of us, please sell me your material possessions at pennies on the dollar. I think you will be disappointed in the long run. I am amused by others who prefer the biblical end times and profess that it is coming soon. I imagine that has been said every year for the last 1900 or so years, but if you insist I encourage you to go to your churches and pray just a little more. Oh, and my favorite of this bunch, the environmental fanatics. Those fascinating people whose ideological binge prevents them from seeing that 2008 was actually a year of global cooling. If it makes you feel better to ignore the many scientists expressing their doubts or jumping off the global warming bandwagon, then by all means - recycle your underwear to your heart's content.
But before you all busy yourselves with your own personal end of days answer this one question for me: So What??!! If the world truly was going to end in 2012 or tomorrow what could you do that would make any difference? Why get your blood pressure up and stress over something over which you have no control? Where is the virtue in your anxiety?
Now that I'm done mocking those doomsayers I will turn my attention to other news.
