Halloween

It is Halloween again. Yes one of the many sugar filled holidays is once again upon us. Abbie is dressed up as Cleopatra and her friend Cecilia joined us for this year's festivities. Cecilia is a vampire and really got into her character. Adrienne pictured below is some type of bat girl. I think she said she was a sweetheart bat. She is a sweetheart for sure that is unless you get into her candy!

We stopped by Melissa's house and trick or treated. We then stayed in that neighborhood and visited houses on that side of town. We were meticulous to only stop at houses with these yard signs! :)

The Final Game of Fall Ball

The Spider Monkeys played their final game of fall ball and was it ever exciting. We dug ourselves into a deep hole to begin the game, but we managed a comeback. I managed a couple of infield hits when leading off and even drove in a run in the last inning. Everyone on our team hit well and managed several hits. Melissa made a great catch in left field charging toward foul territory. Despite having a big lead going into the last inning our opposition staged a fierce comeback only to fall short leaving the tying run on second and the winning run at the plate. We finished the fall season with two wins and I am happy to have been a part of this team. I had a lot of fun!

Signs

The girls have recently taken to the song Signs. They have not heard the Five Man Electrical Band original but they really like the Tesla remake.

Here you can listen to Adrienne sing the song. Adrienne did not want me to post this without the music in the background so I crudely spliced this together.

Here you can listen to Abbie sing the song. She was not nearly so picky and did not request the music.

Feel free to add comments to let the girls know what you think.

Where's Waldo...err John

Here is a photograph of John in his seats at the Homecoming game. I would be seated with them but the usher checked my ticket and rejected me. Anyway look at the picture and see if you can find John in the crowd. Double click on the picture to enlarge.

The Game

Colorado never got close in this game. Mizzou dominated the game from beginning to end. The defense was especially impressive in getting the shutout. Mizzou 58- Colorado 0. I tailgated with friends before the game and thoroughly enjoyed myself throughout. It is always good when Mizzou wins.

Homecoming

It is Mizzou's Homecoming. The birthplace of a tradition that spans this nation. It is a great parade but very long. Adrienne went with her friend Madison and I took Abbie. Abbie really loved the dog in the parade and I always look forward to seeing the Homecoming royalty. Of course the Oscar Mayer Wienner Mobile is a family favorite.

Double Header

The Spider Monkeys played a double header and it did not go well. We lost both games. I played third base for part of the first game and then finished the game in right center. I played right center throughout the second game. I managed a couple of hits but the competition was very stiff, and we were beat easily in both games. It was very cold and windy throughout the games. The strong winds made all of the balls carry deep into the outfield.

Mizzou Loses

I have always felt that close losses were harder to swallow than blowout losses. This week’s loss to Oklahoma State was particularly hard to swallow considering we had a half time lead and created several turnovers.

Two things stood out to me as keys to this game. Special teams play was a killer. We punted well but missed two field goals and either one of those would have changed the complexion of the game. Had we made both we would have won. The second thing that stood out was the poor game by Chase Daniel. It was an uncharacteristically poor game from the senior quarterback. He was behind receivers and looked very uneasy in the pocket. He threw two very bad interceptions the second of his three picks was inexcusable. He was rolling left and threw toward his right over the middle of the field, a freshman mistake.

We can make up some of this lost ground by pulling off the upset victory in Texas this week.

Quiet Week

We had a quiet week in the Smith home. Things were mostly uneventful. We had pizza night and family movie night. The girls were ecstatic to go with their mother to the MU volleyball game. Friday night I went to the Rockbridge and Helias football game. That was a real snoozer. Rockbridge just does not appear to have a fighting spirit.

The Mizzou game last night was awesome. I know Nebraska thinks themselves better than what they are, but they were really bad last night. They lost by 35 at home the largest margin of defeat in Lincoln in over 50 years. Are they really better off under Pelini?

So when are people going to stop saying the Tigers cannot do something? We cannot win in Boulder, done that. We cannot win at k-state, done that. We cannot win a New Years bowl game, done that. Cannot win in Lincoln, done that. Now tell me what it is we cannot do!
